Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman has already made cinematic history and continues to rake in money at the worldwide box office. The film has made over $600 million worldwide.
Wonder Woman faced competition from Pixar’s Cars 3 last weekend but Wonder Woman only had a 30% drop in its third weekend bringing in an additional $41 million. Wonder Woman is the first movie within the DCEU to earn a 90% score on Rotten Tomatoes and to receive widespread praise from critics and fans.
With these numbers, it’s possible that Wonder Woman could catch up to the box office total earned by Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Dawn of Justice made 872.7 million worldwide. Suicide Squad, another other DCEU property, earned 745.6 million worldwide.
Melissa Silverstien, founder, and publisher of Women and Hollywood gave her thoughts on this summer box-office season has changed.
“I think this summer has made it clear that there are less true movie stars than people thought. But what it underscores for me is the consistent, persistent underestimation of women.”
Here is my review of Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman.
